Hello, my name is David and I am disabled. My disability is due to end stage renal disease.  Renal failure is due to brittle diabetes.  My kidneys started to fail in 1992.  I went on peritoneal dialysis in 2001.  Thankfully in 2003 a wonderful person whom I never met gave me a gift of life, a kidney.  The team of surgeons and doctors at the Cleveland Clinic were superb.  My joy was short lived though.  In late 2003, I developed an infection that spread throughout my blood system.  The infection started in the bladder area and quickly spread.  After 3 weeks in the Clinic the infection was brought under control but the damage done to the kidney was irreversible.  My kidney is now operating at only 10% of normal function.  I have now been placed on a pancreas/kidney transplant list and await dialysis.
